Author's Confession
Why I Write
When I began my professional writing journey in 2024, my intention was not to express my grief from my husband's death. I never imagined I would create a love story that would intertwine with the dystopian fiction genre. But three-quarters of the way through my first novel, 'ONLY - You found a way to save me,' I recognized that my characters embodied pieces of my life and the love I lived throughout my 45 years of marriage.
Lieutenant Quinn's love for his recruit, Katherine 'Kat' Lee, mirrored the deep emotion, energy, and unconditional love my husband had for me. In my stories, I expressed the turmoil of forgiving oneself for past mistakes in order to be successful during perilous missions that led to the loss of cherished characters and the instinct to do the unthinkable to protect loved ones. My writing expressed what I battled within: the struggle to forgive myself for not defeating death when it claimed my husband.
Ultimately, I discovered that it takes "ONLY" one person who truly understands you, who allows you to be your authentic self, and who provides the safe space where healing can genuinely occur.
That sanctuary was found with my husband and his unconditional love for me.
